Are you familiar with the Name Box in Excel? It’s the box right above the first column. Normally it shows you what cell or range of cells you have selected. But have you ever noticed what the Name Box shows you when you enter an equal sign in the formula bar? Check it out. When you do so, the Name Box turns into a Function Box. It gives you a drop down list of functions to choose from, and if you do not see the one you want, simply click on More Functions. How handy is that? Here is additional tips on using the auto sum feature : “use the Fill Handle to drag down and complete the rest of the rows”. Well this reminded me of a shortcut I use all the time but many of the people I work with had never seen it so I thought I would pass it along to you as well.
Instead of dragging the fill handle down to complete a column you can just double click on the fill handle and Excel will then fill the entire column with what you want copied all the way down until there are no more nonblank cells adjacent to the cell you are copying. This is extremely handy when you want to copy one cell down 100’s or 1000’s of rows. Wow, that is so cool!
Finally, sharing my accidental findings while working on Excel
Ctrl + D in excel will copy the content of one cell above into current cell.
Ctrl + K Opens up the “Insert Hyper Link” dialogue box (which most of the users would know).
Ctrl + W Closes the active workbook
